ASSIGNMENT 3: TYPE in Motion Design (25pts)
DESCRIPTION
In this assignment you will learn techniques animating type through various exercises. Then, you will choose a phrase or word based on prompts and develop a concept then expressing its meaning through a short animation.
OBJECTIVES
- Develop skills working with type using After Effects
- Develop an a type-driven Design Board
- Illustrate the ability to choose appropriate typefaces to express emotion or ideas.
- Demonstrate the ability to build dynamic/animated compositions with type.
- Demonstrate the ability to composite type into environments.
SET UP CLASS/ASSIGNMENT FOLDERS for your work.
- Create a folder on your USB drive and name it: art460
- Create a folder inside art460 and name it: assignments
- Create a folder and name it: assign3
Save ALL files related to this project inside the assign3 folder.

PT1 - Develop Concept
IN CLASS THURSDAY April 4
- INTRODUCE the Project
READ Chapter 9, Type-Driven Design Boards, in your textbook, Design for Motion by Austin Shaw.
DEVELOP a CONCEPT for a type-driven animation, one in which TYPOGRAPHY is the heroic element in both the design board and the animation. Build your concept from te prompts listed below.
WRITE. Articulate your concept in writing. Explain, succinctly, what it is you want to convey/communicate through an animation based on the prompts listed below. TYPE and PRINT include your name and submit to instructor.

- Present your written concepts for your type-based animation
HOMEWORK
- SKETCH, using pencil and paper, a storyboard of your concept.
- The animation is to be short about 20 seconds.
- Draw LARGE; work will be pinned to boards in classroom for critique

- CRITIQUE: Present your sketched storyboard.
- Revise concept/storyboard based on feedback recieved during the critique.
- Develop 6 style frames representing how you intend to develop the concept visually; develop in-depth graphics using Illustrator and Photoshop to convey the typeface(s), the color, the graphics, the mood, etc. REMEMBER the TYPE is the main visual character.
- SET up style frames artboards/document size:1920 px by 1080 px

- Include a mood board to express the overall "vibe" you are shooting for.
